For a 15th consecutive year, the Hollywood Film Festival and Hollywood Film Awards continue their mandate of bridging the gap between emerging filmmakers and the film industry, as well as recognizing excellence in established Hollywood, both in front and behind the camera.

In addition to celebrating accomplishments on screen, the Hollywood Film Festival and Hollywood Film Awards established the “Hollywood Gives Back(r)” initiative to expand and continue highlighting and assisting important local and national causes. Over the years, the Hollywood Film Festival and Hollywood Film Awards have contributed to such organizations as: The Art of Elysium, Artists For Human Rights; Artists for Peace and Justice; Children’s Hospital Los Angeles; the Enough Project; and the children’s charity Variety SoCal among others.

Further, the Hollywood Film Festival and Hollywood Film Awards selects individuals to be recipients of their “Hollywood Humanitarian Awards (TM)” in recognition of their contribution to the betterment of their communities or society at large. Called the “first mandatory stop in the awards season” by the “New York Times,” the Hollywood Film Festival and Hollywood Film Awards Gala Ceremony, held respectively at the ArcLight Cinemas in Hollywood, and at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, in Beverly Hills, honor the brightest talents from some of the year’s best films.

The “Los Angeles Times” recognized the Hollywood Film Awards Gala Ceremony as a “pre-Oscar showcase,” while the laid-back atmosphere in the Beverly Hilton has helped the gala earn the description of “the Oscars without the angst.” (Also from the L.A. Times.). The Gala is a celebration of Hollywood and the art of filmmaking. In the past eight years a total of 73 Oscar nominations and 27 Oscars were given to the honorees of the Hollywood Film Awards.

In addition, the 15th Annual Hollywood Film Festival’s “Hollywood Film Awards” ceremony was held Monday night, Oct 24, before a standing-room-only audience of over 1,100 Hollywood Film Festival® attendees at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills.

The festival and awards, presented by Starz, announced this year’s winner of the “Hollywood Movie Awards” – David Yates’ “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2″ – which was chosen by the public voting online at the Yahoo! Movies website. Join us at the 15th Annual Hollywood Film Festival for a special tribute and Q&A session with “Footloose” director Craig Brewer who was discovered at the festival eleven years ago.

To commemorate the 15th year of the HFF, director Craig Brewer, who got his start at the festival, will be doing a special Q&A on Saturday, October 22, at 7:00p.m. Brewer was discovered by the HFF in 2000, when the festival screened the world premiere of his feature film, “The Poor and Hungry.” The HFF then connected Brewer with an entertainment attorney and manager and the rest is history as he went on to direct “Hustle and Flow,” “Black Snake Moan,” and now “Footloose.” In addition to the Q&A with Brewer, the HFF will also be screening a restored version of his original film, “The Poor and Hungry.”

The 15th Annual Hollywood Film Festival and Hollywood Film Awards, presented by Starz Entertainment, has unveiled its line-up of finalists for this year’s festival, founder and executive director Carlos de Abreu announced today. The festival’s mandate is to bridge the gap between emerging independent filmmakers and established Hollywood, and includes features, documentaries and shorts.

The Hollywood Film Festival, which takes place October 21-24 at ArcLight Cinemas, will open on Friday, October 21, with the world premiere of DORFMAN, a romantic comedy about Deb Dorfman who moves to Los Angeles and ends up igniting a renaissance of her own, while profoundly transforming both herself and those around her. The comedy was directed by Brad Leong and stars Sara Rue, Elliott Gould, Sophie Monk, Haaz Sleiman, and Catherine Hicks.

The 15th annual Hollywood Film Festival and Hollywood Film Awards, presented by Starz Entertainment, have announced that director Bennett Miller will be honored with the “Hollywood Director Award” for his outstanding direction on “Moneyball.”

Miller will be recognized at the festival’s Hollywood Film Awards Gala Ceremony, which will take place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills on October 24, 2011.

“With ‘Moneyball,’ Bennett Miller has given us a beautiful film, from what many called an ‘unfilmable’ book, and we’re thrilled to honor him as our Hollywood Director,” said Carlos de Abreu, Hollywood Film Festival Founder and Executive Director. “Bennett found the heart in this story of baseball statistics and guided the remarkable performances of Brad Pitt, Jonah Hill and Philip Seymour Hoffman. ‘Capote’ was a masterful debut, and ‘Moneyball’ further proves that Miller has a real gift for breathing life into complex material.”

“Moneyball” is the critically acclaimed story of Oakland A’s general manager Billy Beane (Pitt), who gambled on an unorthodox and revolutionary method building the ideal baseball team, based on their unique ability to score runs and win games. The 15th annual Hollywood Film Festival and Hollywood Film Awards, presented by Starz Entertainment, have announced that Oscar winner George Clooney will be honored with the “Hollywood Actor Award” for his critically acclaimed performance in Alexander Payne’s “The Descendants.”

Clooney will be recognized at the festival’s Hollywood Film Awards Gala Ceremony, which is scheduled to take place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills on October 24, 2011.

THE DESCENDANTS: From Alexander Payne, the creator of the Oscar-winning “Sideways,” set in Hawaii, “The Descendants” is a sometimes humorous, sometimes tragic journey for Matt King (George Clooney), an indifferent husband and father of two girls, who is forced to re-examine his past and embrace his future when his wife suffers a boating accident off of Waikiki. The event leads to a rapprochement with his young daughters while Matt wrestles with a decision to sell the family’s land that was handed down from Hawaiian royalty and missionaries.

The film was produced by Clooney’s Smokehouse Productions. Other Smokehouse films include “The American,” “The Men Who Stare at Goats,” and the upcoming “Argo.”

Clooney made his directorial debut in 2002 with “Confessions of a Dangerous Mind,” winning the Special Achievement in Film Award from the National Board of Review. In 2006, he received Academy Award nominations for Best Director and Best Screenplay for “Good Night, and Good Luck.” That same year Clooney received his Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for “Syriana.” It was the first time in Academy history that an individual had received acting and directing nominations for two different films in the same year. Two years later, Clooney directed “Leatherheads,” a Smokehouse production.

Among the many honors Clooney received was the 2007 Peace Summit Award, given at the eighth World Summit of Nobel Peace Prize Laureates. In 2008, Clooney was designated a U.N. Messenger of Peace.

In January 2010, Clooney co-produced the “Hope for Haiti Now!” telethon, which raised more than $66 million, setting a new record for donations made by the public through a disaster-relief telethon. The 15th Annual Hollywood Film Festival and Hollywood Film Awards, presented by Starz Entertainment, are pleased to announce that Academy Award-nominated Carey Mulligan will receive the “Hollywood Supporting Actress Award,” and Bérénice Bejo, Jean Dujardin, Elle Fanning, Amber Heard, Andrea Riseborough, Shailene Woodley and Anton Yelchin will receive the “Hollywood Spotlight Award,” at the festival’s Hollywood Film Awards Gala Ceremony, which will take place October 24, 2011, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills.

The announcement was made today by Carlos de Abreu, Founder and Executive Director of the Hollywood Film Festival. “It is a privilege to honor Carey Mulligan, Bérénice Bejo, Jean Dujardin, Elle Fanning, Amber Heard, Andrea Riseborough, Shailene Woodley and Anton Yelchin for their great talent,” said Mr. de Abreu.

ABOUT CAREY MULLIGAN
Mulligan can currently be seen in FilmDistrict’s action thriller “Drive,” opposite Ryan Gosling, Bryan Cranston, and Oscar Isaac. Directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, “Drive,” is based on the James Sallis novel. Mulligan will next been seen in “Shame,” directed by Steve McQueen. The film stars Michael Fassbender, who plays a thirty-something man living in New York who is unable to manage his sex life. Mulligan plays his troubled younger sister. “Shame” will be released in the U.S. by Fox Searchlight in December.

This fall, Mulligan began production on director Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation of “The Great Gatsby” in Sydney, Australia. The film is based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel. Mulligan plays Daisy Buchanan. The film will be released by Warner Brothers in 2012.

In September 2010, Mulligan starred in Fox Searchlight’s “Never Let Me Go,” based on the award winning novel by Kazuo Ishiguro. Also in September 2010, Mulligan appeared in Oliver Stone’s “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps,” from 20th Century Fox, starring alongside a cast including Michael Douglas, Shia LaBeouf, Josh Brolin, Frank Langella, and Susan Sarandon.

Mulligan received an Academy Award nomination, a Golden Globe nomination, a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination and garnered critical acclaim for her starring role in the Sony Classics film “An Education,” written by Nick Hornby and directed by Lone Scherfig. Also, she received the British Independent Film Award for “Best Actress,” was named “Best Actress” by the National Board of Review, and was named “Best Actress” by the Orange British Academy of Film (BAFTA). ABOUT AMBER HEARD — “The Rum Diary”
As stunning as she is talented, Amber Heard is making waves with her captivating performances on the big screen. She will next be seen in “The Rum Diary” starring opposite Johnny Depp and Aaron Eckhart. The dramatic adventure film is an adaptation of the Hunter S. Thompson novel and will be released on October 28.

She recently completed production on the independent film “Syrup,” a dark satire also starring Shiloh Fernandez. Bejo can currently be seen in Michel Hazanavicius’ silent film, “The Artist,” opposite Jean Dujardin. The film follows a silent movie superstar and a young dancer who become interlinked as the arrival of talking pictures threatens their destinies. In 2001, she entered America’s big screen by performing in “A Knight’s Tale,” and in 2002′s “24 Hours in the Life of a Woman.”
Some of her film credits include “What Love Means,” “Prey,” Henri-George Clouzot’s “Inferno,” “Modern Love,” “OSS117: Cairo, Nest of Spies,” “Final Arrangements,” “Le Grand Role,” and Cavalcade.”

ABOUT ELLE FANNING — “Super 8″
Elle was most recently seen last summer starring in the blockbuster film “Super 8″ for director J.J. Abrams and producer Steven Spielberg. She made her feature film debut in 2001 at the young age of two when she co-starred as a “Young Lucy” in New Line Cinema’s “I Am Sam.” Since then she has starred in more than 10 films and numerous episodes of television. In 2004, Elle appeared in Focus Films’ “The Door in the Floor” from director Tod Williams.

In 2006, Elle appeared in two movies. The first was Paramount’s “Babel,” directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu and starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett. Next was Touchstone’s “Déjà Vu,” directed by Tony Scott and starring Denzel Washington. In 2007, Elle filmed “Reservation Road” where she played “Emma Learner,” the daughter of Joaquin Phoenix, and director John August’s “The Nines.” In 2008, she played the young Cate Blanchett in Paramount’s and director David Fincher’s “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” opposite Brad Pitt. Also that year, Elle starred as “Phoebe Lichten” in the independent film “Phoebe in Wonderland” opposite Patricia Clarkson, Felicity Huffman and Bill Pullman, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival with rave reviews for it’s young star.

In 2010, Elle starred alongside Stephen Dorff in Sofia Coppola’s film “Somewhere,” which won the Golden Lion for Best Picture at the Venice Film Festival. Elle was nominated for a Critics’ Choice Award for her performance in the film.

She will next be seen starring in Francis Ford Coppola’s “Twixt,” which had its world premiere at the 2011 Toronto Film Festival, and this December stars opposite Matt Damon and Scarlett Johannson in Fox’s “We Bought a Zoo” for director Cameron Crowe.
ABOUT JEAN DUJARDIN — “The Artist”
In 1995, Jean Dujardin began his first one-man show, the same year he met Eric Collado, Bruno Salomone, Emmanuel Joucla, and Eric Massot with whom he created the “Nous C Nous.” In 1999, he became “Loulou” in “Un gars, une fille.” This part permitted him to show his talent to a larger public. Since the end of “Un gars, une fille” in 2003, he has appeared in many films.

ABOUT ANDREA RISEBOROUGH — “W.E.”
Having spotted Andrea at the National Theatre, Mike Leigh offered her a place in the company of his latest film “Happy Go Lucky.”

Andrea had a number of film releases in 2010 and early 2011. The first was “Made in Dagenham,” a true story directed by Nigel Cole (“Calendar Girls”), in which she plays the role of a woman working in a Ford factory fighting for equal pay. Her role as a waitress in Rowan Joffé’s remake of “Brighton Rock” received rave reviews at last year’s Toronto Film Festival. Following this, Andrea starred in “Never Let Me Go” (January 2010), an adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s novel.

Andrea can next be seen starring in Madonna’s new film “]W.E.” where she plays the role of Wallis Simpson. The film showed at this year’s Venice and Toronto Film Festivals, and will be released this December. She also stars opposite Michael Sheen in “Resistance,” which will be released in London later this year. Andrea most recently finished filming “Welcome to the Punch” with James McAvoy and is currently filming “]Disconnect.” Both are set to be released in 2012.
ABOUT SHAILENE WOODLEY – “The Descendants”
Shailene Woodley began her career at the age of 5 when an agent recognized her potential and signed her on the spot. She has been working ever since. She started in commercials and then got her first TV role in the 1999 movie of the week “Replacing Dad,” which starred two-time Oscar nominee Mary McDonnell. More recently, she played the title character in the popular Warner Bros. movie “Felicity: An American Girl Adventure,” which was produced by Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Julia Roberts.

Her first lead role performance earned this review: “Felicity offers Woodley’s feisty performance; she’s warm and cheeky, and immensely fun to watch.” Woodley’s other television work includes recurring roles on “Crossing Jordan” (as a young Jill Hennessy), “The O.C.,” and “Jack & Bobby” (where she played the daughter of John Slattery). She has also made guest appearances on series like “Cold Case,” “My Name is Earl,” “CSI: NY” (playing an angel-faced killer), and “Close to Home.” She also had a lead role opposite Ann-Margret and Matthew Settle in the television movie “A Place Called Home,” and co-starred with William Mapother and Treat Williams in “Moola.”

ABOUT ANTON YELCHIN – “Like Crazy”
Anton Yelchin is one of Hollywood’s hottest rising stars. With his highly acclaimed performances in “Charlie Bartlett,” “Star Trek,” “The Beaver,” “Fright Night,” “Like Crazy” and a slew of starring roles in major films this year, Yelchin is quickly becoming a household name. “Like Crazy”, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and won the coveted Grand Jury Prize, hits theaters October 28, 2011. Yelchin, who is receiving critical raves for his performance as an American college student who falls for a British exchange student and experiences the joy and heartbreak of first love, was just recently honored by the Aspen Film Festival with the “Artist to Watch” award for his performance in the film.

Earlier this year he Yelchin lent his voice to the role of “Clumsy Smurf” in Sony’s summer blockbuster film “The Smurfs.” He starred opposite Toni Collette and Colin Farrell in “Fright Night,” a remake of the 1985 comedy-horror picture about ateenager who discovers his neighbors are vampires. Yelchin recently finished work on the film “Odd Thomas.” In the film Yelchin will play the title character of “Odd Thomas,” a short-order cook with clairvoyant abilities that encounters a mysterious man with a link to dark and threatening forces. In the film Yelchin will star alongside Willem Dafoe, Addison Timlin and Patton Oswalt. “Odd Thomas” is set to be released in 2012.

Yelchin’s past projects include “New York, I Love You,” “Terminator Salvation” opposite Christian Bale, “Middle of Nowhere” opposite Susan Sarandon, “Alpha Dog,” “Hearts of Atlantis” for which he won a Young Artist Award, among many others.

Letty Aronson latest film was Woody Allen’s “Midnight In Paris.” She previously produced Woody Allen’s “You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger,” “Whatever Works,” Golden Globe winner “Vicky Cristina Barcelona,” “Cassandra’s Dream,” “Scoop,” “Match Point,” “Melinda,” “Hollywood Ending,” and “The Curse of The Jade Scorpion.

She is producing “Relatively Speaking,” three one-act comedies by Woody Allen, Ethan Cohen, Elaine May and directed by John Turturro which opens in September 2011.
Her extensive film, television, and stage experience includes numerous other collaborations with Mr. Allen. She co-executive-produced such films as “Don’t Drink The Water,” which marked Mr. Allen’s first foray into television moviemaking; “Bullets Over Broadway,” which garnered seven Academy Award nominations, winning for Best Supporting Actress (Dianne Wiest); “Mighty Aphrodite,” for which Mira Sorvino was awarded the Best Supporting Actress Oscar; and “Sweet and Lowdown,” for which Sean Penn and Samantha Morton both earned Oscar nominations. Her other credits as a co-executive producer include Mr. Allen’s highly acclaimed musical comedy “Everyone Says I Love You,” and his “Celebrity,” “Deconstructing Harry, and a”Small Time Crooks.”

In addition, she co-executive-produced “The Spanish Prisioner,” written for the screen and directed by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and critically acclaimed filmmaker David Mamet. Critics universally praised the film when it was released in 1998. She also co-executive-produced “Into My Heart,” which was written and directed by two newcomers, Sean Smith and Anthony Stark; and Coky Giedroyc’s “Woen Talking Dirty,” which marked Ms. Aronson’s first European co-production with Elton John’s Rocket Pictures.

ABOUT DIABLO CODY
Diablo won a WGA Award, an Independent Spirit Award, and the Oscar® for Best Original Screenplay for her film “Juno,” which was released by Fox Searchlight. Following “Juno,” she wrote the horror film, “Jennifer’s Body” which was released by Fox in September 2009.

Cody was the creator and executive producer of the SHOWTIME hit series “United States of Tara” for which Toni Colette took home the Emmy® and Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Comedy Series. 

Currently, Cody wrote and is producing a big screen version of Francine Pascal’s New York Times best-selling book series Sweet Valley High with Universal/Marc Platt. Diablo is writing/ executive producing a new comedy series in development for Fox Network and Warners Studios. She recently completed a rewrite for the new “Evil Dead” movie, produced by Sam Raimi. Her newest and much buzzed about feature with Mandate, Young Adult, is set to be released in December of 2011. It is directed by Jason Reitman, who also directed “Juno”.

Cody has been profiled in countless publications and was formerly a columnist for Entertainment Weekly. Her critically acclaimed memoir Candy Girl was published in 2004. Diablo has also launched an internet show “Red Band Trailer” which is a talk show that features celebrities in her Airstream trailer.

ABOUT ALBERTO IGLESIAS
Perhaps best known for his landmark collaborations with director Pedro Almodovar, Alberto Iglesias is Spain’s most acclaimed composer. In addition to his work with Almodovar, Iglesias has received Oscar nominations for his scores for Fernando Meirelles’ “The Constant Gardener” and Marc Forster’s “The Kite Runner.” Iglesias also received BAFTA nominations for both “The Constant Gardener” and “The Kite Runner” and a Golden Globe nomination for “The Kite Runner.” For Almodovar’s “Volver,” Iglesias won the European Film Award for Best Original Score and the World Soundtrack Award for Composer of the Year. He has received nine Goya awards (Spain’s top film honor) and numerous other European accolades.

Iglesias’ most recent score is for Tomas Alfredson’s “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy” starring Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, Tom Hardy and John Hurt. The film received its world premiere to rave reviews at the Venice Film Festival and will be released by Focus Features in December. He has also completed his most recent collaboration with Almodovar, “The Skin I Live In” starring Antonio Banderas, which premieres at the Toronto and New York Film Festivals and will be distributed by Sony Pictures Classics. This year also saw the release of Iglesias’ critically acclaimed “También La Lluvia,” directed by Icíar Bollaín, and the French production “The Monk,” directed by Dominik Moll.
Iglesias has also collaborated with American directors Steven Soderbergh (the two films about Che Guevara starring Benicio Del Toro), Oliver Stone (“Comandante”) and John Malkovich (“The Dancer Upstairs”). His work with Almodovar includes 2009′s “Broken Embraces,” starring Penelope Cruz, as well as “All About My Mother,” “Bad Education” and the Oscar-winning “Talk to Her” and “Volver,” He has also worked with such top Spanish directors as Julio Medem and Carlos Saura.

Iglesias’ classical studies included piano, guitar and electronic music as well as composition. In addition to his film scores, his work has been performed in concert halls around the world as well as in several notable ballets for renowned choreographer Nacho Duato and the Spanish National Dance Company. His concert pieces include “Cautiva”, “Tabulae”, “Cero Sobre Cero” and “Self” as well as his most recent, “In the Land of the Lemon Trees”, which received its world premiere featuring celebrated soprano Dawn Upshaw in Chicago in 2009.
The festival and awards will mark their return on October 20 for a week long series of screenings, competitions and awards. The Hollywood Awards Gala Ceremony will take place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills on October 24, 2011.
